দলমাদল কামান (Dalmadal Canon)

দলমর্দন থেকে অপভ্রংশ হয়ে দলমাদল। দল শব্দের অর্থ শত্রু, মর্দন শব্দের অর্থ দমন। কথিত আছে ১৭৪২ খ্রীষ্টাব্দে নগর দেবতা এই কামান থেকে গােলাবর্ষণ করে ভাস্কর রাও এর নেতৃত্বে আক্রমণকারী বর্গী বাহিনীকে বিতাড়িত করেছিলেন। সেই থেকে এই কামানটির নাম দলমর্দন। বিষ্ণুপুর মল্লরাজাদের অসংখ্য কামান ছিল। গুটি কয়েক ছাড়া প্রায় সব কামানই বৃটিশ সরকার অন্যত্র সরিয়ে দিয়েছিলেন। ১৯১৯ খ্রীষ্টাব্দে বৃটিশ সরকার টুরিষ্ট আকর্ষণের জন্য কামানটিকে বেদির উপর স্থাপন করেন। ৬৩টি লােহার। আংটা পেটাই করে এটি তৈরী করা হয়। এর দৈর্ঘ্য ৩.৮ মিটার, ব্যাস প্রায়। ৩০ সেমি। এর ওজন প্রায় তিনশত মণ বা ১১২ কুইন্টাল।

Dalmadal is a corruption from team fighting. Dal means enemy, Mardan means suppression.
