মল্লরাজা বীর হাম্বীর আনুমানিক ১৬০০ খ্রিস্টাব্দে এই মঞ্চটি প্রতিষ্ঠা করেন, মল্ল রাজাদের আমলে বার্ষিক রাস উৎসবের সময় বিষ্ণুপুরে যাবতীয় রাধাকৃষ্ণ বিগ্রহ জনসাধারণের দর্শনের জন্য এখানে আনা হতো, ১৬০০ খ্রীস্টাব্দ থেকে ১৯৩২ খ্রিস্টাব্দ পর্যন্ত রাস উৎসব হয়েছে, এ এক অভিনব স্থাপত্য যা ভারতবর্ষের কোথাও দেখা যায় না, এর নিচের বেদি মাক্ড়া পাথরের তৈরি আর উপরে স্থাপত্য ইঁটের, সৌধটির উপরের দিকটি পিরামিড আকৃতির, মাঝের দিকটি বাংলা চালায় ন্যায় এবং নিচের খিলান গুলি ইসলামিক বা মুসলিম স্থাপত্যের ন্যায় !

 Malla Raja Veer Hambir established this stage around 1600 AD, During the annual Ras festival during the Malla kings, all Radhakrishna idols of Bishnupur were brought here for public viewing, Ras festival took place from 1600 AD to 1932 AD, this is a novel architecture not seen anywhere else in India. The lower altar is made of spider stone and the architecture above is made of bricks, the upper side of the monument is pyramid-shaped, the middle part is Bengali style and the lower arches are like Islamic or Muslim architecture!
